Preparation Steps
  1. Bring water to a low boil. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Add peppermint extract and steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove mint leaves and store syrup in refrigerator.
  2. Heat milk and unsweetened chocolate until melted. Combine with peppermint syrup.
  3. Pour mixture into a mug, add espresso, stir well.
  4. Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes.
