  • 1 stick butter (softened)
  • 0.75 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.75 cups molasses
  • 0.75 cups buttermilk

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat shortening, butter, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and molasses; mix well.
  5. Gradually mix in flour mixture and buttermilk alternately until combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, with about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are firm. Let cool on wire racks.
