  • 0.5 cups hot water
  • 1.25 cups unsalted butter room temperature
  • 4.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 to 8 heavy whipping cream as needed for consistency
  • 0.125 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cups natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 bottle green gel icing color
  • 1 set Piping Bags

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (148°C) and prepare a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt to a large mixing bowl and combine. Set aside.
  3. Add the egg, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to a medium bowl and whisk until combined.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  5. Add hot water to the batter and mix until smooth; batter will be thin.
  6. Fill cupcake liners about halfway and bake for 18-23 minutes. Let cool.
  7. Prepare the buttercream: beat the butter until smooth, add powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and cream, and beat until fluffy.
  8. Color a portion of the buttercream with green gel for grass and keep some plain for laces.
  9. Frost the cooled cupcakes with chocolate buttercream for footballs, add green grass, and pipe white laces.
