  • 18.3 ounce fudge brownie mix Duncan Hines brand, prepared according to package
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled slightly
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.33 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick spray.
  2. Prepare the brownie batter as per package instructions. Pour into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until combined. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla, mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough evenly over the brownie layer and bake for 20 minutes covered with foil. Remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden.
  6. Cool completely, then lift out using parchment overhang and slice into 24 bars.
